If you’ve driven around Downtown over the past month, you’ve likely noticed some changes to the street striping. Several Downtown streets have recently been restriped as part of routine maintenance repaving projects. These streets include Adams, Kentucky, and State. These roadway lane configurations have been modified to include dedicated bike lanes. While cyclists can ride on roads without bike lanes, it’s often a safety and comfort measure – for both motorists and cyclists – to provide dedicated space for our two-wheeled friends. The bike lanes Downtown are part of a building momentum we’ve seen over the past year and half for increased cycling across our city. Many of our sister agencies are working toward building a more bike-friendly and walkable city, but like all good things, it takes time.
New Web Map!
As a final note to our active transportation users, we now have a web map dedicated to our bike/walk-friendly facilities (greenways, bike lanes, park trails) in Warren County! We will continue to update and further develop data that’s included on this map, but we hope it will be a useful tool to help you plan your routes to ride, walk, and/or run around town. Check it out here: https://gis.warrenpc.org/public/bikewalkbg/.
Upcoming Events
BikeWalkBG is hosting a social media greenways scavenger hunt throughout July! Check out our Facebook page to participate. We have lots of great prizes to giveaway each week and at the end of the month. This is a fun and active way to explore our community.
Community Bike Rides are back on the calendar for the next few months. These are leisurely rides open to all ages and abilities. We’ll ride 5-10 miles around town, on greenways and/or low-traffic streets. Rides will be every fourth Saturday at 8 AM through October (July 24, August 28, September 25, and October 23). Our next ride will be July 24th at 8 AM. All rides will meet at the City-County Planning Commission, 922 State Street – meet in the parking lot by Tidball’s and look for the BikeWalkBG trailer. Follow along on our Facebook page for more details and use this form to register in advance for our upcoming ride on July 24th! More questions?
