City County Planning Commission Named a Bicycle Friendly Business

The League of American Bicyclists recognized the City County Planning Commission (CCPC) with a silver level Bicycle Friendly Business (BFB) award, earning it a place alongside more than 1,200 businesses across the country contributing to the movement to build a more Bicycle Friendly America for everyone.  This was the first BFB application for CCPC.  CCPC is the thirteenth BFB in the state of Kentucky.   Click here to see Bicycle Friendly Businesses, Universities, and Communities in the state of Kentucky.

“During Bike to Work Week, we celebrate the businesses making it easier for more people to bike every day,” said Bill Nesper, executive director of the League of American Bicyclists. “Bicycle Friendly Businesses like CCPC aren’t just improving commutes — they’re transforming communities through meaningful investments in better biking that benefit employees and customers alike.”

CCPC joins a total of 1,233 current BFBs nationwide, including everything from government agencies, Fortune 500 companies, museums, hospitality establishments, bike shops, and other employers, all united in a commitment to transform American workplaces to be more welcoming to both customers and employees who bike. The Bicycle Friendly Business award recognizes an organization’s contributions in shifting up and accelerating the movement to build a Bicycle Friendly America for everyone.

“At the heart of every new and renewing Bicycle Friendly Business is a commitment to something greater—community, sustainability, and well-being, to name a few,” continued Nesper. “We’re proud to celebrate CCPC for their ongoing efforts to champion cycling both within their workplace and in the world around them.”

As part of the BFB network, CCPC will have access to a variety of tools and technical assistance from the League to become even more welcoming to people who bike. When employees bike, great things happen.

What is BPAC (Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee)?

The MPO BPAC is a subcommittee of the MPO Technical Advisory Committee (TAC). The BPAC provides a forum of communication and collaboration for the bicycle and pedestrian community and public officials alike. The focus areas of the BPAC are to plan, advise, advocate, and educate. The BPAC makes recommendations to the TAC, which then proceeds to the MPO Policy Committee for final decision. With all transportation modes (highway, transit, bike-ped) under the planning efforts of the MPO, the MPO better represents a multimodal system where all forms of transportation are recognized and planned within a single entity. BPAC meetings are open to the public.  Meeting details such as date, time, location, agenda, and minutes can be found HERE.  Sign up HERE to be added to the distribution list to stay up-to-date on BikeWalkBG and Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee meetings, events, activities, programs, and ways to get involved.

What is BikeWalkBG?

Bicycle and pedestrian planning efforts are organized and conducted by the Bowling Green-Warren County MPO.  These efforts are branded and promoted as BikeWalkBG. While the MPO does not have a budget nor carries the responsibility of constructing bicycle and pedestrian facilities, the MPO does work with various local agencies to implement planning projects for improved multimodal access. These multimodal planning activities are carried out by a subcommittee of the MPO’s Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) – the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC).
