Summer 2022 Newsletter

The second quarter (April, May, and June) consistently represents increased permit volumes.  These months are typically the busiest time of year for construction and ranks first among the other three quarters most years.  This year the total number of permits fell below the previous quarter, however, the first quarter had a significantly large quantity of demolition and storm-related rebuild permits from the December and January Tornados of 2021/2022.  These permits accounted for nearly 15% of those permit totals and while those permit types are still actively applied – the city and county are only seeing 1 to 2% of the total number reflected in all permit applications.  With that in mind, the second quarter of 2022 has continued the trend to outpace in volume of all previous quarters and years in the past.  With those numbers removed from the previous quarter there was a 10% increase in permit applications.

Site Development Plan approvals increased substantially from the previous quarter as well as from the previous year.  Subdivision approvals alone, doubled from the first quarter.  Several industrial job announcements from the previous quarter produced several applications for review, as well as approvals.

As interest rates increase and supply chain concerns have remained a challenge for builders and home buyers – new construction for single family residences has remained in high demand.  The housing market has continued to remain steady and site development applications for multi-family units have consistently remained high.
